During the Venetian film festival, the director of Luke Guadagnino ("call me with my name", "suspension") told the Italian publication Badtaste.it about his new project. Universal Pictures Studio has been dreamed for several years to remove the remake of the classic film "face with a scar" and now it is ready to start shooting with Guadagnino as director. The director explained why he agreed to take up the project:
I was interested in Tony Montana. He is archetype an American dream. At the same time, each version of the "face with the scar" belongs to its era. My version of the story will be released 40 years after the previous one. And this is the main thing in the "face with the scar", it is important for the remake to show that Tony is not just a character, but an archetype.
Guadagnino already knows how to make the film be successful:
The most important for the remake: a) the script must be excellent - and it is really so; B) our Tony Montana should be our contemporary, I do not want to imitate anyone; C) the film must be shocking.
When I told you about the "suspension", I kept the promise. And this time I promise that I will surprise you with my film. The film Brian de Palma had R rating, so I want my film to get a big letter R.
The original film "Face with Scar" was filmed by Howard Hawkers in 1932, Brian de Palma remake came out in 1983. The Universal Studio is expected to complete work on a new film in 2023, to the anniversary of the picture of de Palma.
