Happing as a director of such paintings as "Carrie", "face with a scar" and "untouchables", Brian de Palma was also the person who turned the television series "Mission: Impossible" into a blockbuster with a multi-million-dollar audience. The eponymous film released in 1996 has gained great success and thus marked the beginning of one of the largest Hollywood franchises. However, de Palma himself insists that he was never attracted by the prospect of making the sequels of his paintings - that is why he refused to head "Mission: Impossible 2".
In an interview with AP News 79-year-old director said:
All these stories are prolonged to infinity exclusively for economic reasons. When I took off the "mission: Impossible", Tom [Cruz] asked me to start developing the continuation, but I answered him: "Do you joke?" One is quite enough. Why do someone shoot another similar movie? Of course, the main reason here is to make money. I have never been a director who seeks to earn, but for Hollywood is a big problem. That is how Hollywood corrupts.
Although the first two sequels of the original "mission: Impossible" achieved a certain success, further franchise came to decline. It was revived only in 2011, when "Mission Impossible: Protocol Phantom" came out, and next "Mission is impossible: the Rogue Senior tribe" (2015) and "Mission Impossible: Consequences" (2018). "Mission: Impossible 7" should go on screens on July 23, 2021, while the release of the eighth part is scheduled for August 25, 2022.
