In an interview with Empire magazine, Josh Boon film director answered the question, whether he was not worried about the fate of the film after a deafening failure last year, "Dark Phoenix", which became the least successful of all films of the franchise "People X". Boon said:
Listen, after the "Dark Phoenix" there is nowhere to fall, you can only climb. I do not want to say anything bad about people who worked on that film, but it turned out what happened. Honestly, now I feel less anxiety than waiting for the first scheduled release date. We have been tested many times our film, I like the audience.
The date of the premiere of "new mutants" was repeatedly transferred. The last time the Disney studio reported that the premiere was postponed due to precautions associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The new date has not yet been voiced.
The film tells about five teenagers with supercans, which are locked in a classified government clinic. To get rid and stop being experimental rabbits, they need to learn how to own their skills.
In the same interview, Josh Bun admitted that the team who worked on "new mutants" is the plot of the film's sequel. But since the rights to the "X-Men" switched to Marvel, the future of this project is unknown.
