In the course of the conversation, Herst admitted that he originally planned to kill the legendary king of the Viking Ragnar of Labrian (Fimmel) back in the first season, but later this character became one of the key in the series, so his death had to postpone:
When I wrote a script for the show, I thought about the death of Ragnar at the end of the first season. But when we were already engaged in filming, I realized that by the end of the first season we were only at the beginning of his adventures.
As a result, Ragnar "extended" to the second part of the fourth season, before perishing and cede the power to his sons. Herst shared that many discouraged him from the murder of the protagonist. Despite this, Showranner for concessions did not go, because the death of heroes is an integral part of the concept, which was based on the "Vikings":
I was surrounded by a lot of gloomy and fallen warnings that the death of the main character could cause damage to the entire show. It was a risk, but I could not do otherwise.
Recall that at the moment "Vikings" numbers six incomplete seasons. The second part of the sixth season should come out until the end of this year.
