According to Variety, Michael Dante Dimartino and Brian Koniezko refused to take further participation in the production of the game adaptation of the Avatar: Legend of Aange, for Netflix. Digatino and Koniezko worked on this project since 2018, but because of the creative disagreements, the duet decided to quit. On this occasion, DiMartino published an open letter of the following content on his website:
Many of you are aware of the news about the game series "Avatar" for Netflix. Now I can say that I no longer accept participation in this project. In June of this year, after two years of work, Brian Koniezko and I took a difficult decision to leave production. When I concluded a deal on this TV series, the Netflix leadership promised us the opportunity to realize their own vision of this show. Unfortunately, in fact, everything turned out not as we hoped. Listen, it happens. This is a difficult process. Emergency events occur. Plans have to change. I tried to adapt, but at some point realized that I could not control and determine the creative process. So I decided to leave.
Digatino added that he still loves the Universe "Avatar" and believes that the game series from Netflix has its own potential. By the way, Netflix so far did not comment on the current situation. It is only known that production will continue. Netflix partners in this project are Nickelodeon and Denina Rideback Production Company.
