The letter states that modern society is too accustomed to publicly condemn all unwanted, showing "intolerance to opposite glances", while "to defeat bad ideas can be exposure, disputes and convictions." The authors of the appeal demanded them from the need to "make a choice between justice and freedom" and tried to defend their right to an error.
