The topic of social injustice and racial discrimination recently costs more than ever. In the inappropriate statements and actions have already accused many celebrities, but not all of them are ready to submract apologies and silence.
On July seventh of July, an open letter appeared on the website of the Harper's Magazin publication, which in essence stands for freedom of speech. It emphasizes that public discussions should be available to everyone, and also condemns the persecution of the opinion on representatives of racial and sexual minorities.
The letter states that modern society is too accustomed to publicly condemn all unwanted, showing "intolerance to opposite glances", while "to defeat bad ideas can be exposure, disputes and convictions." The authors of the appeal demanded them from the need to "make a choice between justice and freedom" and tried to defend their right to an error.
It is not surprising that one of the fifty celebrities supported by the letter was the author of Harry Potter Joan Rowling. Back in June of this year, the writer provoked a whole series of angry statements to his address when he published a post in Twitter, in which the phrase "Menstrual people" said and stated that for such people there are several millenniums. Then she listed several distorted options for the word "woman" and offered readers to remind her what of them is true.
This statement served as reasons for accusing Rowling in Transofobii, and, in addition to human rights organizations and activists, the actors associated with Harry Potter adaptations were negative about her words. Among them were Eddie Redmein, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Katie Luung and Nom Dumuezeni (Hermione in the theater production "Harry Potter and damned child").
