Writer and director of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" James Gunn became the main defender of MARVEL films, marked sharp criticism from such "patriarchs" of American cinema, like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. The recent words of the speeding word that superhero blockbusters are unworthy to be called cinema, marked the beginning of a hot discussion, which many film industry figures were involved. The new impulse, this dispute was literally the other day, when the 80-year-old Coppola went even further, calling Marvel films "pitiful and despicable."
In his response, published in Instagram, Gunn never mentions Coppoll by name. He only argues that superhero films are worthy of being regarded separately, and did not dump into one kip:
Many of our grandfathers at one time thought that all gangster films were the same, often calling them "pitiful." Some of our greatest grandfathers thought about Westerns, believing that John Ford's films, Sam Beingpi and Sergio Leone did not differ from each other. I remember one great uncle, in a conversation with which I selflessly admired "Star Wars". He answered me: "I watched such a movie in those days when it was called" 2001: Space Odyssey, "and I can confess you, my boy, that it was an indescribable boredom!" Superheroes are just modern gangsters, cowboys and space wanderers. Some superhero films are terrible, and some are beautiful. As in the case of Western and Gangster films (and simply by films), not everyone will be able to assess them in dignity, even some geniuses. But it normal.
