In an interview with Day Lewis spoke about how his last film was shot - "Ghostly thread":
"Before getting to work on the film, I have not yet knew that I will finish the acting career. We are with Paul [Thomas Anderson, film director] laughed very much before getting to shoot. And then we did not work to laughter - the feeling of some incredible sadness was absorbed so much. For us, this was a surprise: we did not realize what exactly created. Day Lewis himself has not yet seen his last film - and it is not going to watch him. To the question why he decided to say goodbye to the acting career, Daniel said the following:
"To the end I did not understand why. But I was accepting this decision. Unwillingness to watch the film is associated with my decision to stop working as an actor. But I'm not sad because of this: sadness appeared when we tried to tell this story. "
Day Lewis also explained why I decided to announce my care from the acting publicly:
