Caroline is in captivity in the house of Salvatore - Nora and Marie Louise suspended her hands on chains, so that she barely pulls out to the floor.
Meanwhile, Alaric tells Bonnie about the mysterious stone of the Phoenix, with which you can return to the life of the dead - Alaric confesses that he stole him from the museum when they were in New York before traveling in Europe. Bonnie studies a stone and sees blood and death - these visions scare her. She tells Alarik that the stone is dangerous, but he, however, knows that.
Stephen tells Daimon that Caroline was abducted, and insists that Damon corrected the consequences of his murder Malcolm. Damon is trying to penetrate the Salvator's house, but it discovers that he cannot do this - the house does not belong to him anymore: Lily shows his documents on which a completely different name of the owner is indicated. To penetrate the house and save Caroline, Damonu and Stephana, it is necessary to find and kill this person - that's just it turns out that the house now is legally - Matt's Donovan.
Bonnie offers the Idea brothers - to stop the heart of Matt, so that Stephen and Damon can penetrate the house and save Caroline. The limit of time is 6 minutes, after which the Matt will no longer save, but Bonnie will have enough only 10 seconds.
Bonnie puts a timer on his phone and stops the heart of Matt. It takes 10 seconds, Bonnie is preparing to "launch" his heart again - how suddenly it starts visions, and Bonnie loses consciousness.
Marie Louise and Nora, meanwhile, mock Caroline, and then Valerie appears, which imposes on Caroline Chara. Caroline loses consciousness, and when it comes to himself, sees Stephen, who came to save her. However, because of Char Stefan cannot touch Caroline.

Damon, being in the cemetery and seeing that Elena disappeared, loses the remnants of self-control - and here Lily appears, which reports Damon, that Elena's body now has - and Damon will have to agree to its requirements.
In the meantime, in the house of Salvatore, it turns out that a cleaner has become a new "mistress" at home (which we have seen at the beginning of the series). Stephen flies through the window, and Caroline remains captive.
Having met at Daimon, Stefan learns that Damon leaves - Brother tells him what she does at the request of Lily, who is now Elena. The brothers realize that their mother is trying to take away all that they love - but instead of angry at each other, they come up with a new plan. Damon and Stefan pretend to be quarreled, and Damon will go to seek the Sixth Heretics (whom no one has seen since 1903) to negotiate with Lily to return Elena.
Meanwhile, Alaric tells Bonnie that he destroyed the Phoenix stone, and himself goes to the morgue to check if it was possible to return the dead to life with it. Instead of Joe, he is experiencing a stone on a boy who was killed in Mystic Falls earlier. He puts a stone on the boys's chest, he comes to life for a few seconds, but when Alarik removes the stone, it becomes dead again.
At the end of the 2 series, the action "jumps" for 3 years ahead - and we see that Caroline works the TV producer in Texas and is engaged with someone who knows about Mystic Falls - but this is not Stephen: Moreover, Caroline no longer wants hear the name "Stephen". Then the mysterious field appears from the end of the first series - and kills Caroline and its assistant.
